Our Beginning

K12 Plus started with a simple, uncomfortable observation: In special programs, the people who care the most about students were spending the least time with them.

K12 Plus is built by a team with deep roots in K–12 education. Some of us came from classrooms, campuses, and central office roles, while others came from building workforce management solutions that helped organizations handle complex, high-stakes work at scale. When we compared notes, we saw the same thing from three angles:

  • Educators feeling buried in plans, meetings, and paperwork.
  • Systems that would never fly in any other industry with this much responsibility.
  • Limited visibility into whether students in special programs were consistently receiving the support outlined for them.

None of that was about a lack of effort. It was about tools that haven’t caught up with what schools are being asked to do.

Where We Came From

Before K12 Plus, our founders spent decades:

  • Teaching, coaching, and leading in K–12 schools
  • Running special programs and sitting in ARDs, 504 meetings, RTI meetings, and LPACs
  • Building and scaling companies that manage complex workflows and compliance in other sectors

The education side of our team saw:

  • IEPs in one platform, 504 in another, RTI/MTSS in spreadsheets, LPAC on paper or Google Forms
  • Teachers with 30–40 separate plans and no easy way to see what actually mattered for tomorrow’s lesson
  • Special programs staff spending evenings chasing signatures and rebuilding trackers
  • Families handed complex documentation full of jargon when they just wanted to know, “What is the plan for my child and how is my child being care for?”

The workforce management side of our team saw something else:

  • Processes that would be considered mission-critical anywhere else running on binders and homegrown sheets
  • No single source of truth for the people doing the work
  • Risk and burnout that looked very familiar from other industries, just with much higher emotional stakes

On both sides, the conclusion was the same: this isn’t a people problem. It’s a systems problem.

Why We Built K12 Plus

We didn’t set out to build another point solution for one program. We asked a different question:

“What would it look like if every student in a special program could be seen clearly, in one place, by the people who support them?”

Answering that means:

  • One student record that connects IEP, 504, RTI/MTSS, and LPAC
  • Workflows that match how schools actually operate, not how a PDF looks
  • A view that gives teachers the key details for the students in front of them, without asking them to read a small novel for each plan
  • Clear, plain-language summaries for families, alongside the formal documents districts must keep
  • Reporting that lets leaders spot issues early instead of waiting for an audit, complaint, or crisis

What We Believe

A few simple ideas drive the product and the company:

  • Every student should be more than a category.
Behind every IEP, 504 plan, RTI meeting, or LPAC file is a student and a family that has told their story again and again. Systems should help staff keep that story straight, not bury it.
  • The workload should match the mission.
Educators didn’t choose this work so they could spend nights scanning forms. Software should reduce friction, not add steps.
  • Visibility creates stability.
When special education, 504, RTI/MTSS, and LPAC teams share the same view of a student, it’s easier to make good decisions, close gaps, and respond when something starts to slip.
  • Compliance is the floor, not the ceiling.
Laws, funding, and timelines define what must happen. The real win is when students actually receive the support in their plans and families can see that it’s happening.

What Unites Our Team

Our founders bring two different backgrounds to the same mission:

  • Career educators who have lived the daily reality of special programs.
  • Career business and technical leaders who have built systems that keep complex organizations on track.

What they share is a deep respect for education and a particular commitment to students in special education and other special programs. K12 Plus is where those perspectives meet: a platform built with the heart of an educator and the operational discipline of people who have spent years fixing messy, high-stakes workflows.

Where We’re Going

Today, K12 Plus helps districts bring IEP, 504, RTI/MTSS, and LPAC into one platform so special programs teams can see the full picture for each student and act on it.

As we grow, we’ll keep three groups in focus:

  • Students and families, who deserve clear communication and follow-through
  • Teachers and support staff, who need tools that fit into the day they already have
  • District and campus leaders, who carry responsibility for timelines, audits, staffing, and outcomes

Our mission is to champion every child’s ability to learn by creating thoughtful, accessible software for special education—freeing educators to focus on teaching and ensuring students are supported, seen, and never lost in the shuffle.
